Our first show Peoples Court in downtown Des Moines.

We enjoyed sharing the stage with $trick9 & the Truth and Cleo's Apartment, both of whom put on great shows!

The sausage was delicious! Thanks to the world famous Sausage Girls for packing the meat.

Des Moines Arts Festival 6/27/08

Thanks to those of you that stopped by to see our short set at the Des Moines Arts Fest! Unfortunately, Mother Nature cut us off after 30 minutes of rock.

Hopefully we will return to this event next year and the rain will stay away!

Our first ever show at The Warehouse - great venue, nice bar staff.

DG's Tap House - Ames / Jan 19 2008

Our first show at this remodeled, upstairs bar.  Great place with a huge selection of beers on tap.

Sweet pants.

Thank you to so many of our friends that ventured out on this night - one of the coldest nights of the winter.

goodness gracious!

with Supersuckers / Oct 6 2007

It was our incredible honor to open for the greatest rock n roll band in the world, The Supersuckers, in downtown Des Moines.

The man, the legend...Eddie Spaghetti.

Pat rockin' out on the Gretsch.
Mars Cafe / June 11 2007

Our first acoustic show, played four songs as part of Scented Vinyl night.

Our loud, full set at the Vaudeville Mews, opening for The High Strung, later this night was fun too.
Drake TKE House / Des Moines / May 3, 2007

pretty good party for a rainy Thursday night

Good job TKE House, way to throw a party!
Minstrel Studios / Iowa City / Apr 2007

Great time again working with John Svec, who also produced our first two albums

The sessions went smooth, had planned to record 7 songs, but ended with 8.

GT Lounge / Des Moines/ New Years Eve 2006

Ringing in the new year at one of our favorite bars.  Our friend Sarah joined us on a couple of songs & did a great job.

2007 is going to rock.

We all decided to grow mustaches for this show.  Lookin' good.

Sweet 'stache bro.

Thanks to GT Lounge for the top notch service & cold brews.
Manhattan KS & Kansas City MO / Dec 1-2, 2006

12/1/06 at Auntie Mae's Parlor in Manhattan KS.  What an incredible night, good people, and fantastic bar.  Dead Girls Ruin Everything rocked the joint with us & blew our minds.

12/2/06 - Mike's Tavern, Kansas City MO.  Thanks again to Action Figure for another great show in KC-MO.

This show capped off a long day of mostly driving around KC doing nothing.  We had hoped to land a hotel room and relax there all day, but everything was booked by Oklahoma & Nebraska football fans - in town to watch the Big 12 Championship game.

Sean ate half of a Reuben & left the other half in our cooler.  As we left the show, we opened the cooler and you wouldn't believe the stink!  The van will smell like Reuben for the next few months.

Mike's Tavern is one kick ass rock n roll bar.
Magic Bus / Iowa City / Nov 4, 2006

NOG playing on the world famous Magic Bus outside Kinnick Stadium.

Our friend, Brian Uhlmann, joins us on tuba for punk rock versions of the Iowa Fight Song and In Heaven There Is No Beer.

This was an incredibly fun day, despite the Hawkeyes' surprise loss to Northwestern 21-7.

Look for NOG back on the Magic Bus in 2007!

Uhlmann with Magic Bus regular "Catfish".
Iowa State Fair / Aug 20, 2006

Rockin' out on the final day of the 2006 fair at The Depot.

One of the best times we've had on stage.

Things got a little crazy at the end - check out the girl going head over heals on the right.
Kansas City / Jun 11, 2006

Following our Friday night show in Wichita, we played Saturday in St Joseph MO.  Before our show on Sunday in Kansas City, we went to a Royals game.

We played a lot of catch with the football on this trip and took our Topps Football card photos outside Arrowhead.

Blue...32...Blue...32...

The Royals lost to Tampa Bay 8 to 1 and we played one of our worst shows ever at Mike's Tavern - but it was still a good day.
Cedar Saloon / Wichita KS / Jun 9, 2006

Our first time playing the Cedar Saloon.  It was a long drive from Des Moines, mostly because we took a five hour detour at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City.  A rock show following roller coaster rides - now that's a good day.

Suburban Crisis!

This is a great bar - good food and cold beer!  Thanks to everyone at the Cedar.

Played with our friends Bright Young Hopefuls - they are better than ever.

Albert is their new bass player.  He kicks ass.
Black Lodge Studio / Apr 13-17, 2006

We recorded and mixed 7 songs over 4 days.  We intend to release an EP in June or July!  This is the control room in studio A of Black Lodge Studios in Eudora KS.  It was an incredible experience working here.

Dan and Sean relax in the control room of studio B.  Some of our favorite bands have recorded here - including Ultimate Fakebook, Dead Girls Ruin Everything, Motion City Soundtrack, Reggie and the Full Effect, Koufax, and The Get Up Kids (whose drummer is part-owner of the studio).

Kurt Cobain and William S. Burroughs actually recorded together in this very studio.

Pat laying down some sweet drum tracks on day one.

Engineer extrodinaire - Nick Day - setting up to record gold.  We had a blast with Nick and hope to work with him again in the future.  He provided us with some great ideas on arrangements and helped us record some incredible sounds.  Thanks Nick.
Hairy Marys & The Reverb / Des Moines & Cedar Falls / Mar 27-28, 2006

What a blast we had playing two nights with one of the greatest rock bands on the planet, The High Strung!

Derek has one cool drum kit - a Ludwig Vistalite, like Pat's clear kit.

Rockin' out at The Reverb in Cedar Falls - great venue.  Thanks to KUNI Radio for sponsoring this show.

Josh:  I'm just a wretched boy.  Swear to God.

Pat with one of the most amazing bass players ever - Chad from the High Strung.

Cousins / Mason City / Feb 18, 2006

Jimmy Page played guitar with a bow.  Sean Wilson plays with a pint of beer.  One of our new favorite venues to play is Cousin's Bar in Mason City.  Thanks to Arian Schuessler for these great photos.  He's a photographer with the Mason City Globe Gazette.

Ketelsen's laying down the low end.  Yes, that's a Gibson Thunderbird.  Every girl's crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man!

Cousin's has a regulation basketball hoop.  Sean, as pictured here, displayed perfect form and beat Dan and Pat to claim the 2006  World HORSE Championship.  His signature "you must shoot with your left hand" shot was unstoppable.
Club Underground / Minneapolis / Feb 17, 2006

This was the second night of a 3-night trip that also included shows at The Zone in Ames and Cousin's Bar in Mason City.  Of course a snow storm and sub-zero temperatures hit the midwest just in time for the trip.

We played a pretty tight, short set this night.  We closed with BTO's "Hey You".  As you might have guessed from the venue's name, the load-in and load-out at Club Underground is interesting.  But the sound system is great - and everyone working the club was fantastic.  Oh, and the Grain Belt was ice cold!  Thanks.

We opened for this great band from Minneapolis, Ponofo.  It was their release show for their debut CD-EP.

The other openers included Tom Cruise Control and this band, Van Pelt.  Both sounded great and are from the Minneapolis area.
Jackpot Saloon / Lawrence KS / Jan 6, 2005

This was the second night of a 3-night trip...Kansas City, Lawrence, & Mason City.

Holy crap, we have some sweet gear!

Did God himself make this guitar?!  It sounds like it.

One of our favorites...The Black Rabbits.

That Farfisa sounds like gold.
House of Bricks / Des Moines / Oct 29, 2005

Halloween Party.  Sean decides to go as a "priest with a moustache".  Brilliant.

Dan is the Mad Hatter and his wife, Michelle, goes as Alice.  But, the twist is she slashes his throat.

Does this dress make me look fat?  Pat is trying to be Meg White from The White Stripes.

Sean with his buddies from Monroe.  Bless you for coming to the show guys, do you like my moustache?

Great costume, teen wolf.  Go Hawks!

Wait a second...is that a real moustache?

You can still rock in America!
Red Kitten / Salina KS / Oct 23, 2005
So, while we're setting up for this night's gig - the country band from the night before is loading out.  The Red Kitten is a sort of roadhouse in Salina, and it's Sunday, so we're a bit worried a punk rock band isn't gonna go over too well.  Well, you can't buy alcohol in Kansas on Sundays, so people go to the bar.  The crowd wasn't huge - but they were rowdy & enjoyed our 3 sets of rock.
A tattoo artist from Salina shows us this work on his right forearm.  He did it himself with his left hand - and he's right handed!  We met lots of nice people here.  It turned out to be our sort of crowd...lots of odd people and bizarre conversations.  It was a pleasant surprise.  We will be back here before too long.
Dan enjoys a nightcapper with the locals.  The tour would end the next night with a forgettable show on a Monday in Lawrence KS. We drove home after that gig, arriving in Des Moines at 5am. I opened the door to my house and my dog, Wrigley, ran out. I was exhausted, but spent the next two hours combing the neighborhood looking for her. Finally, she came home and I was able to sleep in my own bed.  It was like heaven.
Kirbys / Wichita KS / Oct 22, 2005

After Shreveport, we had shows in Monroe LA and Denton TX that are not worth recalling here.  Finally, we get to one of our favorite bars on the planet...Kirby's Beer Store in Wichita KS!  We spent the evening playing Galaga, South Park pinball, the jukebox, and watching the White Sox beat the Astros in game 3 of the World Series.  Later, local band The Bright Young Hopefuls (photo) open the bill.

The last time we played Kirbys, we also did it with the Bright Young Hopefuls, and they rock.  The Midgetmen from Austin joined us on the bill tonight and did a fine job, especially with their cover of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin".
Lil' Joes / Shreveport LA / Oct 19, 2005

At this point in the trip, we are sick of filling up the gas tank.   We end up spending over $800 on gas over 2 weeks.

We opened this 3-act bill at 9pm, and played in front of the sound guy and the bartender.  Later, lots of people showed up and saw local talent Chris Alexander and Lozenge, a great band from Chicago (photo here).  The show ended early and everyone asked us to get our stuff back on stage - so we set up again and played another set.  It was a blast.  This is a great venue with a restaurant that's open 24/7.  The cook, named Killer, makes a great bowl of soup.
Headhunters Tiki Bar / Austin TX / Oct 18, 2005

We got a higher billing than "Damn Good Food" - yes!  Goodbye Beautiful actually cancelled, so we got the stage to ourselves all night.

This is a cool punk rock / tiki bar right in the heart of the entertainment district.  Hurricane Katrina evacuees were all over the neighborhood, many of them sleeping on the sidewalks.

Not a bad crowd for a small venue on a Tuesday night.  We were also competing against Queens of the Stone Age, playing one block away, and Kings of Leon, playing across the street.

The small stage sounded good.  It looks like we're the house band at the one bar on Gilligan's Island.

"I'm tired, thank you, good night!"
Atomic Cantina / Albuquerque NM / Oct 14, 2005
It felt good to hit the stage following 12 hour drive from Topeka.  This was one of our best shows on the Oct 2005 tour.
This is a great shot of Pat's newly purchased 1970's Vistalight Ludwig drum kit.  It sounds great too!
Here's the set list we played at Atomic Cantina.  We played these songs in various orders through the entire tour.  Oh My God, 900, and Someday Ordinary are brand new at this point & yet to be recorded.
Boobie Trap / Topeka KS / Oct 13, 2005

The drummer's perspective!  This was a fun night.  We played with a local high school band, PwK.  It was their first show and I heard that they broke up afterward.  This was our 2nd visit to the Boobie Trap in Topeka & we look forward to going back soon.

This sign outside did say "BANDS TONIGHT" - but the kids couldn't resist scrambling the message.
sally t's / st peters mo / aug 6, 2005

Oh Yeah?  Oh Yeah!  Sally T, you GET IT!  You win, Sally T!  This bar was great.  We had too much fun.

We did some boozin' this night.  One dollar PBR's and we each blew through $25 at the bar.  For those of you doing the math, that's 25 PBR's each.   Ummm, it was a long drive back to Des Moines.

This was our first trip in our new van.  It ran great and the bench seat folds out to a bed - we made use of that both nights.   No one was in any shape to drive after the Sally T's show.  We slept in the van outside the front of the club.  Rock n Roll!

Slick 57 from Dallas TX rocked with us at Sally T's - great band and nice guys.
rack em up / buffalo grove il / aug 5, 2005
Pre-show visit to Six Flags.  Waited 2-1/2 hours to ride the Superman coaster behind us.  It was worth it!  Incredible ride.
NOG rockin the Rack Em Up Bar in Buffalo Grove IL.  Thanks to Jenny for booking a punk rock show!
We had a great time here and The Late Nights also rocked!
taste of des moines / july 23, 2005

hottest and hardest show we've ever played.  the actual temp was 95-degrees with a heat index at 114!

event was sponsored by Captain Morgan - but we didn't get one free drink.

Sean's Marshall head & cab died on him because of the extreme heat, so he had to play through a borrowed crappy Ibanez cabinet and a solid state Marshall head that had a horrible metal tone.  Not to be ungrateful, thanks to the band that let us use this - but still, it sounded like dog poop.

Pat lost 6 pounds playing a 40 minute set.  It was frickin' HOT.
