THE LATEST NOG NEWS
:

(9.11.08) - NOG is confirmed to play a big, outdoor Halloween night party in the East Village area of downtown Des Moines!  We are making big plans for this show & need your help!  We are asking people to dress up as their favorite TV show characters from the 1970s or 80s.  We'll be bringing people up on stage to the theme songs from those shows. email us if you want to get involved!

(9.22.08) - It's hard to believe summer is almost over. We played a lot of super fun gigs between May and mid-August.  Now, it appears we'll have some down town until the Winter months. We have a lot of personal business to attend to in the Fall - primarily bachelor parties & weddings. We are also looking forward to getting back into the rehearsal studio and starting work on some new songs!

(6.4.08) - Summer 2008 is here and North of Grand will be having it's busiest summer yet! We are looking forward to playing some big festivals and some very cool bars that we either have never played or have not played in a long time. We are looking forward to partying with you - so come on out & catch a show!

(4.27.08) - Thanks to everyone who came out to rock with us in Kansas City, Lawrence & Lamoni the past few nights. We had a blast every night. We would like to thank our friend Jill D. for supporting the rock with an amazingly generous gift...a full tank of gas! Awesome. We'd like to thank our friends from Lawrence, Dead Girls Ruin Everything, for their coolness and hospitality. We also can't say enough about how nice everyone was at the Drake TKE House last night - great party. It's good to know college kids still like rock n roll. Please visit and support The Studio Downtown in Kansas City, The Replay Lounge in Lawrence, and The Longhorn Pub in Lamoni. All great places with great people!

(4.14.08) - Thanks to everyone who came to our CD release/5 yr anniversary show at Carl's Place. What a good time! We'll post some photos very soon. If you did not purchase our new CD, Setbacks Are Scheduled For Tomorrow, at the show - you can get it now on our merch page. You'll notice we are also offering our 2005 album, Attention to Revenge, as a FREE download!

(4.8.08) - Thank you to everyone who attended the big Gross Domestic Product show at the Hotel Ft Des Moines this past Friday. We had a blast! Check our photos. Our official CD release show is THIS SATURDAY! Don't miss out on the fun. It's all happening at Carl's Place at 1620 Woodland Ave in Des Moines. There's no admission charge! We played our very first show at Carls five years ago to the date. You will be able to purchase our new album, Setbacks Are Schedule For Tomorrow, at the show. If you can't make it - our CD is now available online or locally, in Des Moines, at ZZZ Records, Homer's, or Borders (in West Des Moines).

(3-5-08) - Thank you! Last Friday, listeners of 105.1 FM Channel Q in Ames voted North of Grand as the "best local band."  Honestly, we are a bit stunned. Radio listeners called Tony Tarbox's After School Special program and took part in the "mass debate" question of the day.  Thanks to Mr. Tarbox too, he has been a long time supporter of both North of Grand and the central Iowa music scene.  Here are the results from the 105.1 "mass debate":
Who is the best local band?
1. North of Grand
2. The Envy Corps/Slipknot (tie)
3. On A Pale Horse/Destrophy (tie)

(2-17-08) - What a fun time we had last night. North of Grand, $trick9 and the Truth, and Phase Two played a Winter Formal Party at The Warehouse in Urbandale. Check our photos page. Also, feel free to email us a few photos if you were there.  And thanks to so many of our friends who made the trip!

(1-25-08) - Thanks to all the brave souls who came to our show at DG's Tap House in Ames last Saturday.  It was a great turnout, considering it was the coldest night yet this winter & all the snow on the ground.  We'll be posting some photos soon.  Our next show should be a blast too!  It's a "Winter Formal Show" at The Warehouse in Urbandale on February 16.  Dig that old 1970's tuxedo or prom dress out of the closet - and get ready tear the roof off the mother sucker!  Check out our shows page for all the details.

(1-9-08) - Be sure to tune-in to 105.1 FM, Channel Q, on Thursday, January 17 at 3pm!  Sean will be an in-studio guest with Tony Tarbox, talking about our new album & our upcoming show in Ames.

2008 is shaping up to be a busy year for North of Grand.  We are starting to book some very cool shows and plans are being finalized to release our long-overdue 4th album, Setbacks Are Scheduled For Tomorrow, hopefully in April.  Click here to listen to one of the new songs, titled "Des Moines River Conference."  We are also planning to film a few videos.  Keep checking back for updates!

(12.29.07) - Hey, Happy New Year everyone.  First of all, our apologies to anyone who went to the Thomas Street Tap in Redfield, IA expecting to see us last Saturday.  We got there to unload & found out our show was cancelled.  It was something out of our control - but we are sorry for any inconvenience.  In other news, you may notice we made some minor changes to our website...and even added our first video (well, sort of)!  We are hoping to make some real music videos in 2008...so check back.

(12.21.07) - Hey, Merry Christmas everyone!  Do you still believe?  Visit here to listen to a most excellent song North of Grand wrote for this special time of year.  It includes jingle bells and everything!  Pat and Sean recorded the song on Pat's new digital 4-track, which he's still trying to learn how to use, so cut him some slack, Jack (or whatever your name is).

(11.29.2007) - Congratulations to our friends at Skin Kitchen in Des Moines.  They just celebrated their 10th year of making this fabulous city even better.  Since 1997, the artists at Skin Kitchen have done 34,000 tattoos.  North of Grand had a blast playing their 10th anniversary party this past Sunday at House of Bricks.

(9.27.2007) - Can you say holy crap?!  We have just landed a gig that we previously only dreamed about.  On Saturday, October 6th, North of Grand will be the opening act for the greatest rock-n-roll band in the world, THE SUPERSUCKERS.  The show will take place outdoors in downtown Des Moines, at 3rd & Court.  6pm.  $12 at the gate.  It's part of the something called Rocktoberfest.

(9.27.2007) - We are still trying to find the resources to release our new CD, Setbacks Are Scheduled For Tomorrow, but in the mean time - you can listen to TWO new songs from the CD on our myspace page.  One song is called "Des Moines River Conference" - special thanks to Roosevelt High School in Des Moines for the hallway noise!  The other song is a moody little number called "Rain Fade"

(6.24.2007) - It appears our new album will be released sometime in late July or early August.  Thanks to everyone who came to see us at our recent shows with The High Strung and Scrue.  The High Strung have a big tour of libraries this summer in support of their terrific new album.  Yes, libraries.

(5.24.2007) - New photos posted from studio and recent show at Drake University TKE House party.  Thanks to the TKE guys for the fun time.  Our new album, titled Setbacks are Scheduled for Tomorrow, is due for a mastering session soon and we hope to have it out late this summer.  The initial album artwork looks incredible.  Check back, we may post a new song from the album here soon.

(5.7.07) - For those of you who attended our show this past Friday at Carl's Place in Des Moines, sorry.  We blame birthday boy Eddie for buying us shots.  I guess I did ask for them, but I didn't really contemplate the conscequences!  As Eddie told us later, "when you guys started, it was red hot!  But man, when the wheels came off the tracks, it was an absolute disaster."  We couldn't agree more. Again, sorry 'bout that!  (Pat)

4.5.07) - Thank you to everyone who came to our shows last Friday at the Vaudeville Mews.  We had a blast both on stage and off.  The other bands (Left is West, The Mittens, & The Safes) were all incredible. We also appreciate the big crowd that turned out to support local music at GDP 2007 on Sat March 31.  Some nice things were said about NOG's set on dmjuice.com.  You can read those comments here (scroll to bottom of page).
